How Dental Crowns Help Restore Damaged Teeth

A fall on some slippery stairs damaged a front tooth. You have a large chip, and the enamel is becoming discolored. After a root canal dental crownsprocedure, your tooth is healthy again but stands out in your otherwise attractive smile. A dental crown can improve the appearance of that front tooth, and with some help from your dentist in Pasadena, CA, Dr. Jerry Johnson, that crowned tooth can live on for many years.

What is a dental crown?

It's the most frequently placed dental restoration next to fillings, reports the Cleveland Clinic. The single-tooth crown is a tooth-shaped jacket which fits over and protects remaining healthy tooth structure. Most dentists, including Dr. Johnson in Pasadena, choose naturally-colored porcelain for most crown applications, including dental implant restoration, finishing root canal therapy and securing fixed bridgework.

The crown process

It takes two visits with Dr. Johnson and his staff. During the initial consultation, Dr. Johnson examines the damaged tooth and X-rays it. Then, he can remove the unhealthy portions and shape it to receive the crown. Oral impressions and a detailed treatment plan give the dental lab information necessary for fabrication of the restoration. While you wait for your new crown, you'll wear a temporary version to keep your smile bright and functional.

At the next visit, Dr. Johnson will remove that temporary crown and bond the permanent one in place. He ensures crowns sit properly on the prepared tooth and bite together with the opposing arch of teeth. With that, your crown is complete.

As with your other teeth, you'll want to avoid plaque and tartar accumulation around your crown. So brush twice a day, and floss the restored tooth, too. Wear a bite guard if you grind your teeth (ask Dr. Johnson about one), and keep your routine cleaning appointments.

Finally, enjoy your crown and your renewed smile. Most porcelain crowns stay in place for at least ten years of service. If you encounter any problems, just call Dr. Johnson's office.

Bring back your smile

Dental crowns do just that for millions of people every year in the US. Find out more by booking a consultation with Dr. Johnson and his friendly team in Pasadena, CA: (626) 798-7896.

Patient Reviews

Dr. Johnson and his staff worked with me when I had a recent dental emergency. He was able to work me into his schedule and diagnose my cracked tooth and provide temporary relief from the pain. I am extremely happy with my new crown and feel that Dr. Johnson did an amazing job.  January 25th, 2023

Dr. Johnson is a high-quality dentist who takes the time to explain any procedure you need to have done, which greatly puts you at ease. I recently broke off a piece of one of my back molars while eating at a restaurant. I called his office and Dr. Johnson was able to see me right away and fit me in to his schedule. I ended up needing a crown and couldn't be happier with the results. Thank you, Dr. Johnson!     December 4th, 2018

Best Dentist In The World!!!!!! My wife has been going to Dr. Johnson for quite some time now and she introduced me to him about 12 years ago. I have never felt so comfortable with a dentist as I have with Dr. Johnson. I have had a lot of work done by Dr. Johnson and have never felt any pain... AT ALL! If you are afraid of going to the dentist because of the pain, you need not fear Dr. Johnson. He is easy going and patient and does not try to sell you anything you don't need. Another thing that makes his office great is, he is prompt. If your appointment is at 2, then you are in your chair and being worked on at 2. He doesn't over book, which speaks volumes about his care for his patients.

best.dentist.ever. Jerry Johnson is the best dentist I've ever been to. I used to go to Dental Plus in Pasadena, and although their dentists were very competent, they were always trying to get me to do what I thought were unnecessary procedures (like veneers I didn't want or need). Jerry is the exact opposite of this. He's very laid-back, knowledgeable, and never tries to rip you off. His staff are friendly, polite, and intelligent. I think he already has plenty of patients, but I'd strongly recommend him if you're looking for a dentist in the Pasadena area.
